This offer is open to all households that purchase an electric water heater from the
Cooperative that have a capacity of 85 gallons or more, regardless of the rate schedule they
are on. However, all water heaters must be connected to an operational load management
device. Please note that any use of this service is subject to all other policies of the
Cooperative.
TYPE OF SERVICE
Freeborn Mower Electric Cooperative may use the Dairyland Power Cooperative Load Control
Strategy to regulate the service during system peak, economic dispatch, or emergencies.
Load management devices will be installed at locations where an adequate radio signal is
available.
PROGRAM BENEFITS
The Cooperative is responsible for providing all necessary parts and labor for servicing or
replacing water heaters that are covered under this program. Any controlled residential water
heaters that are currently in use will be included in the program. However, please note that
this program does not cover issues related to water quality, such as water that contains an
excessive amount of iron, rust, lime, sediment, or any odors resulting from a water heater's
anode rod or other sources
LOAD MANAGEMENT DEVICE MAINTENANCE The Cooperative will maintain the load management device at no cost to the member.
Cooperative personnel will have access to the load management device for inspection and
maintenance purposes.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
1. The member must use a standard electric water heater approved by the Cooperative
for regular use. Additionally, the member should not use any non-electric water
heating device during any part of the year, such as heating coils in a fossil fuel burning
range or furnace.
2. The entire installation must comply with the rules and applicable codes as approved
by the Cooperative.
3. The Member or their electrical contractor must request the inspection. The member or
their electrical contractor must make provisions in the water heating wiring
installation for the installation of a load management device. The device should be
located outside the building where there is an adequate radio signal. Prior to the
completion of the installation, a Minnesota state electrical inspection must be
conducted, which should be requested by the member or their electrical contractor.
4. The Cooperative has the right to regulate the Member's water heater for a minimum of
five years. If the member wants to remove the load management device before the
completion of five years, they will have to pay a pro-rated cost for the water heater
rebate, which will be calculated based on the remaining time of the unamortized
contract. The Member must understand that they will no longer be a part of the
program and will not be eligible for program benefits.
5. The Member is responsible for reporting any issues with the water heater to the
Cooperative office. The Cooperative will handle all necessary repairs or replacements.
If the water heater is unable to be repaired, the Co-operative will replace it with a
similar model of the same size in the same location as the previous one. If the Member
wishes to relocate the replacement water heater to a different location, any
associated costs will be their responsibility.
Freeborn Mower Electric Cooperative Policy
6. The member should note that the benefits of the program are applicable to the
location of the account and not to the member. Therefore, they must leave the water
heater at the current location if they move from there. In case a member's account
becomes inactive, the Cooperative will remove the load management receiver.
Consequently, the member will lose their eligibility to participate in the program and
avail of program benefits
