Pay as You Go: Cold Weather Rule Protection Application

MVEC Members with a household income at or below 50 percent of the state median household income (see chart below) are eligible to avoid disconnection of their electric service between October 1 and April 30 if they enter into a payment arrangement and make timely payments per the agreement. To request an arrangement, please fill out and return this form to MVEC at least 5 days prior to your disconnection date.

You will still need to keep your account balance above zero. Unfortunately, we cannot extend extra time for payments to be made. They are due by your due date. If you currently have an arrangement, MVEC may lower the percentage that goes toward paying off the arrangement. This means more dollars will go toward future usage. MVEC will make this change and notify you by mail once we have received and approved your cold weather application.

MVEC complies with the Federal Trade Commission’s Red Flag Rule, which helps detect, prevent and mitigate damage caused by identity theft. MVEC reserves the right to ask questions to help validate the identity of an account holder when changes to an account are requested by phone or in person.

If you believe you can’t keep your Pay as you Go balance above zero, we can convert you back to the traditional billing program. We will work with you to identify a payment arrangement that addresses your financial situation. If you originally went on the Pay as you Go program to avoid a deposit, the deposit will be reassessed to your account and is due with your first bill after April 15. In addition, if you ever wish to go back on the Pay as you Go program, you will need to bring your account current.
NOTE: Applications without copies of your income information are incomplete and may not receive protection from shut off. This is a declaration of my inability to pay for heat during cold weather.
